Film that won at Cannes Blasted by Author

My last post here was about the Lesbian coming of age movie which was a surprise hit at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Apparently the author of the book on which Blue is the Warmest Color is based is likening it to porn.

Author Julie Maroh, who wrote the novel on which “Blue” is based, says she cannot endorse the film.

Graphic lesbian drama “Blue is the Warmest Color”  —  or “La Vie d’Adele” as the French film is also known  —  took home the top honor at Cannes on Sunday.

But that doesn’t mean that everyone is pleased with director  Abdellatif Kechiche’s final result.

Author Julie Maroh, who wrote the novel on which “Blue” is based, wrote a blog post in which she says the film’s sex scenes are  “not convincing,” “ridiculous,” and likens them to porn.

“As a feminist and lesbian spectator, I can not endorse the direction Kechiche took on these matters,” she writes.

Maroh goes so far as to call the film’s sex scenes “A brutal and surgical display, exuberant and cold, of so-called lesbian sex, which turned into porn, and me feel very ill at ease.”

Lesbian Drama Hidden Gem at Cannes

Film which debuted just 3 days before the end of the world renowned film festival is critical hit at Cannes.

Abdellatif Kechiche’s teen-lesbian coming-of-age story “Blue Is the Warmest Color” has won the 2013 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, a jury headed by Steven Spielberg announced on Sunday.

Based on the graphic novel “Le Bleu est une couleur chaude” and titled “La vie d’Adele – Chapitre 1 & 2” in French, the film debuted only three days before the end of the festival and immediately became one of the biggest critical hits of Cannes — and the only real unexpected breakthrough among the competition titles.

It also drew attention because of its graphic and extended sex scenes between its unknown lead actress, Adele Exarchopoulos, and Lea Seydoux. It is both the most sexually explicit Palme winner and the first gay-themed love story to win.

The film was acquired for U.S. distribution by Sundance Selects, which will no doubt have its hands full with the MPAA ratings board.

The Right Wing Nutjobs are going to have a FIELD DAY with this film if it’s released here in the US. Even now they are spreading rumours about children being shown homosexual porn because the Boy Scouts of America is allowing openly gay scouts within their membership. This film will play right into that, especially because of the graphic and extended sex scenes. For this reason, I hope it doesn’t ever get released here. I am sure it’s a beautiful love story, but it doesn’t deserve the abuse that would be heaped on it by the RWN.

FBI arrests man who threatened gay rights activist on Twitter

I’m sorry that right now all there is to share is bad news. At least this guy was arrested before anything bad could happen.

Facebook has become rather notorious as a destination for criminal idiots. But apparently, it’s not the only social media site the cops visit, as Joseph Joel Morales-Serrano has found out.

Morales, apparently incensed by a gay pride march on his home island, the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, on May 6 and 7 posted a series of profane and violent messages on his Twitter account,@leonidapr, directed at gay Puerto Rican human rights activist, Pedro Julio Serrano.

The bio line of Morales’ Twitter account reads “La Violencia Resuerve Problema” (sic), or “violence solves problems.”

One of the messages, posted at 8:30 in the evening on May 6, read “@PedroJulio cuidado en la marcha que puede terminar como boston pendejo.” (“Be careful on the march because it can end up like Boston, dumbass.”)

Florida teen arrest update

This is a follow up to the story I shared yesterday about the Lesbian teen who had a relationship with a minor. The Today Show more accurately describes it as a relationship problem based on age difference. I have signed a lot of petitions on Change.org and will probably do so in the future, but I will not sign this one as I believe she is wrong and will have to suffer the consequences of her choice.

An 18-year-old Florida cheerleader must decide by Friday whether to accept a plea deal that would spare her prison time for a sexual relationship she had with an underage female classmate.

Kaitlyn Hunt faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the two charges she faces of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor. She also would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

The Florida state attorney has offered Hunt a plea deal that would label her as a convicted felon and require her to attend sex offender counseling. She also would be under house arrest for two years.

Lesbian student gets felony charge

I changed the title from the original one on Yahoo!/ABC because their wording sucks.

I agree that if gays and lesbians want equality it has to be all or nothing. We cannot pick and choose the rights we want to be equal while at the same time leaving others unchanged. So, we must take the beneficial rights along with those that can harm us or another.

If the Hunt family spokesman is right and the other family involved took this to police for the wrong reason – i.e. because their daughter is probably homosexual rather than because of the age difference – then I feel very sorry for them that they cannot accept their daughter for who she is.

I also think it’s wrong that the police set up a sting operation to trap Kaitlyn. Either you trust what the 14 year old is saying or you don’t. If it were an 18 year old male, would the sting operation have occurred?

A Florida high school senior was expelled from school and is facing felony charges for a sexual relationship she allegedly had with a fellow girls’ basketball teammate who is three years younger.

Kaitlyn Hunt, a cheerleader and basketball player at Sebastian River High School, is facing two counts of felony lewd and lascivious conduct on a child ages 12 to 14 for her alleged relationship with a freshman classmate.

She has denied the charges, which were filed earlier this year in Indian River County.

The girls were 18 and 14 when they became sexually involved, according to an arrest affidavit by the county Sheriff’s Department. The girls basketball coach at the high school found out about the relationship, told the younger girl’s mother, who also works as a coach, and kicked Hunt off the team, according to Hunt’s family.

The younger girl’s parents then contacted police, according to the Hunt family.

The police set up a phone sting operation in which the 14-year-old called Hunt and asked her details about their relationship, according to the affidavit. Police then arrested Hunt in February, based on the details the girls discussed on the phone, according to the document. She was charged and spent 24 hours in jail before posting bond.

NYC spike in anti-gay crime

Every time I think we might be getting ahead in our fight for rights and for acceptance, I see this headline on Yahoo and I realize that for every leap forward there’s still a lot of pushback.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – New York City is seeing a spike in anti-gay attacks, with two assaults coming within days of the fatal shooting of a gay man over the weekend, the city’s police commissioner said on Tuesday.

Two men in their early 40s were attacked on a street in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood early on Tuesday morning by two men who shouted anti-gay slurs in Spanish and English and left one victim with a minor eye injury, police said.

Late on Monday night, a 45-year-old man was beaten unconscious after spending the evening at bars in Manhattan’s East Village with a man he met at a homeless shelter where they both were staying, police said.

Immigration and Homosexuals

Dear Senator Patrick Leahy,

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for being the sole voice for gays and lesbians around the United States and for those outside of the US who want to immigrate here to be with their respective partners. Although my girlfriend was born and raised in Kentucky and is 100% American, if I were in the position of meeting someone in another country I would most definitely choose love over liberty. Thank you, Senator Leahy, for at least trying to help us. We appreciate your support and wish there were more Senators and Representatives like you, willing to put forth everyone’s rights, not just some people.

As far as I’m concerned, the Immigration Reform can be flushed down the toilet. Why should only some have rights and not all?

I hope I can find some way to support Senator Leahy in the future.

Weird Candy Around the World

Okay I know this isn’t typical Pink Triangle fare, but just go with the flow and enjoy!! I like to stray from the norm sometimes.

Huffington Post is, as you might guess, one of my favourite news sources. So when I saw this wonderful little link on their site about weird candy from all over the world, I just had to follow it. I try to catch as many episodes of Unwrapped as I can because they even cover the candy no longer sold as well as the brands that are made at smaller companies.

Here’s the list:

1. Salsagheti (Mexico) – watermelon strings which you cover with a packet of tamarind sauce. (available on Amazon through that link!)

2. Botan Rice Candy (Japan)

3. Shrimps & Bananas (England) – not only is the pairing questionable, but so is the flavoring of the shrimp: raspberry (allegedly).

4. High Concentrated Milk Candy (Japan)

5. Musk Flavoured Sticks (Australia) – we must remember this comes from the same country that enjoys Vegemite.

6. Devil Fruit Seed Candy (Japan) – melon soda flavored gummies with a bizarre name.

7. Black Jack Gum (England) – black licorice flavored gum

8. Everyburger (Japan) – chocolate & cookies that look like burgers.

9. Lightning Bugs Gummy Candy (China) – the candy comes with LED tongs that make the bugs light up when you grab one with the tongs.

10. Limón Salt And Lemon Pop Rocks (Spain)

11. Morinaga Hi-Chew Durian (Japan) – apparently moringa hi-chew is usually delicious with intense flavor but with durian it’s apparently not such a good thing. Read the three comments on the link to find out what durian is.

12. Orion Kočiči Jazyčky (Czech Republic) – chocolates in the shape of kitten tongues. Uh… yeah. (A Nestle product! AH!)

13. Popin’ Cookin’ Happy Sushi House (Japan)

14. Satellite Wafers (Belgium) – sometimes called Flying Saucers

15. Salty Tomato Candy  (Japan) – is it really candy if it’s salty?

16. Victory Creamy Corn Candy (Malaysia)

17. Wasabi Kit Kat (Japan) – way to ruin a classic American favorite!

18. Genghis Khan Caramel (Lamb Flavor) (Japan)

19. Toilet Candy (Japan) – can’t say this one surprises me as I know there’s a restaurant somewhere over there where your food is served in miniature toilets. No lie.

Anyone notice that the bulk of weirdness is in Japan? LOL I discovered a video series on YouTube a few months ago through a forum I’m a member of and have been completely captivated ever since. If you’re interested in seeing what #13 and #19 look like live, look for them on YouTube. rrcherry is my favorite YouTuber (??) with these kinds of videos because he doesn’t talk while recording.

Peace Corps To Allow Same-Sex Couples to Serve Together

Another triumph!!

WASHINGTON — The Peace Corps announced on Tuesday that it would extend new benefits to same-sex couples, allowing them to serve as volunteers together overseas.

“Service in the Peace Corps is a life-defining leadership experience for Americans who want to make a difference around the world,” said Peace Corps Deputy Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet. “I am proud that the agency is taking this important step forward to allow same-sex domestic partners to serve overseas together.”

The application process will open to same-sex couples on June 3.
